I’ll be doing Mike Tymvios’s 9 to midnight show this coming Thursday on Mix93.8fm. Vivian Bannatyne and Manie Grove will be joining me, so you can expect a lot of laughs and great music – we all have perfect faces for radio, with Manie being the pin-up and centrespread for this month’s edition of Farmer’s Weekly, and Viv being the face of the recent Beeg Boy Condom adverts! Special feature on my RockIt Scientist show on Friday night (8 to midnight), will be on the awesome BABE RUTH (the band, not the baseball player!). I will be talking to the legendary MEL BOTES at around 8.15 / 8.30pm on my RockIt Scientist show this evening, with emphasis on his upcoming “Riders From The Storm” guitar feast that is taking place tomorrow in Vereeniging and on Sunday in Pretoria. Special feature will be on the sadly departed RORY GALLAGHER, and I will be giving away FOUR tickets to the upcoming METALLICA concert next Saturday. Plus, of course, the usual MIX of blues, metal, rock, jazz, etc etc. Audio streaming via www.mixfm.co.za, or via the TuneIn.com link http://tunein.com/radio/Mix-938-s133441/ TUNE INNNN!!!
Acclaimed South African guitarist /songwriter Peter Hanmer’s new album, “ Living For The Moment”, is a natural and excellent successor to “Revelation”, which was released midway through 2010.
Featuring re-worked versions of tracks such as “Blueprint”, “Guiding Light” and “Ovation”, the album sees Peter exploring a more blues/rock direction, with the fantastic “Blues Suite”, which is comprised of three tracks, demonstrating the versatility and sheer class of this most gifted musician / producer, who has become highly regarded as one of South Africa’s best and most respected guitarists. His live work with Off The Edge and Clint & Co is legendary, and he has used this experience gained, together with his undoubted talent, to release an album that surely deserves its rightful place as one of the best guitar-dominant instrumental albums to have been released in South Africa in recent years.
Tasty rockers such as “Lightning Strikes”, “Bad Attitude”, which features stirling blues harp by Brad Cunningham, and bonus track “Speed Freak’’, add a fantastic balance and diversity to an album that should see Peter Hanmer finally enjoy the acclaim he so richly deserves, not only as a musician and songwriter, but as a producer as well.
With the legendary Larry Rose on drums, and Mike Dorea on bass on one track, Peter handles all guitar, bass and keyboards. This is an expertly produced and professionally recorded album that will undoubtedly be appreciated by lovers of blues, progressive and classic rock.
The album will soon be available for download on CD Baby. Actual hard copies of the album are available via the updated website, www.peterhanmer.co.za, where you can also view videos of some of the tracks.
On The RockIt Scientist on Mix93.8fm Friday night, between 8pm and midnight: Special feature on one of the UK’s most interesting bands: PATTO, led by the amazing Mike Patto (vocals). This band also featured Ollie Halsall, probably one of the most brilliant and under-rated guitarists around. Might throw in a track or two by a few other bands that Mike Patto and Ollie Halsall featured with, such as Spooky Tooth, Boxer, (Jon Hiseman’s) Tempest, etc etc. Plus, of course, the usual MIX of blues, metal, prog, classic rock, etc etc. Audio streaming via www.mixfm.co.za, or http://tunein.com/radio/Mix-938-s133441/ TUNE INNNN!!!!!
